Art Therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses art materials to help communication. By making art it can be possible to express thoughts, feelings and experiences that may feel difficult to put into words.
You do not need any art skills or experience. Art therapists are not concerned with how images look but rather the process of making them and what it may mean to you.
“Art therapists aim to support people of all ages and abilities and at all stages of life, to discover an outlet for often complex and confusing feelings and foster self-awareness and growth.”
British Association of Arts Therapists
There is a choice of art materials to use each session. You will be encouraged to make some art alongside talking with the therapist if you feel able too. You do not have to make art if you choose not to. Ideally each session will happen in the same room and at the same time each week.
I’m Hannah and I am a trained Art Psychotherapist. I have worked in schools, hospitals, perinatal units and CAMHS. I am a member of the BAAT (British Association of Arts Therapists) and the HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council).
I have regular supervision to monitor my own professional competence and development. I also have a DBS Enhanced Disclosure and professional indemnity and public liability insurance. I work with adults and children of all ages and backgrounds.
My approach is underpinned by psychodynamic and attachment-based thinking. I see my role as providing a containing, reflective and empathetic space in which individual creative processes are respected and explored together. I aim to encourage my clients to feel free to work at their own pace, without expectation, and without judgment.
